All-Star Team Announced

John Mayer topped the list of Blue House Baseball All-Stars.

BH HALL OF THE IMMORTALS – As the inaugural Blue House Baseball season reached its halfway point, the league announced its first ever All-Star Team this week. The announcement was accompanied by a ceremony at the Blue House Hall of the Immortals earlier today. Leading the league with the most votes was Charleston Windjammers left fielder John Mayer. Second was Manchester’s right fielder Michael Dawson. The Hawai’i Kats had the most selections with four.

While the league will not have an official all-star game this season, the league is in talks with four unnamed cities regarding expansion franchises. League officials stated that these potential franchises would expand the league into two separate leagues, like the National and American, and therefore, enable a true all-star game. As of now, the all-star team is merely an honor.

BH Baseball Notes

Here are some random notes as the league enters Saturday, February 20, 2010:

San Antonio (10-2) finally travels outside of the division today as they head to Wichita (7-5). This match-up is the most intriguing one of the next week. The leader in the West tangles with the leader in the Central. San Antonio has seen a home game in over seven contests, but they just came off a remarkable 6-game sweep of the Hawai’i Kats in Honolulu. The Somethings will definitely have their hands full.

Tacoma (7-5) travels to Whisker City (4-8) to play the earliest game they have played all season: 12:30 EST. The Aroma have won four straight games, but it is curious to consider how the time difference will affect them. Luckily, they have Jason Salers pitching.

Montreal (7-5) should climb right back to the top of the Eastern Division with a second-helping of Charleston (3-9) coming up in the next week. Charleston sends the atrocious Hans Stolfus to the mound on Saturday. His current ERA is 15.43.

Hawai’i (5-7) will try to get back on the winning track as they travel all the way to Tennessee to play Johnson City (3-9). Hawai’i has lost seven straight games, including a six-game sweep to division-leading San Antonio.

Tacoma Upsets Hawai’i in 10 Innings

HONOLULU – Tacoma finally hit home runs by smashing two en route to a 7-5 upset of then-undefeated Hawai’i. Although, the Aroma finally displayed an efficient offense, it still took ten innings to put away the Kats. The big moment came in the top of the tenth when Lewis Salers hit a two-run homer that put Tacoma (2-4) up for good. Brian Iafratti also hit his first home run of the season.

For Hawai’i (5-1), the loss marks their first of the season, and it destroyed the visage of invincibility they had accrued through the first weeks of the season. The Kats, however, still command a one-game lead in the Western Division as they are set to begin a six-game home stand with San Antonio on Saturday. Tacoma finally gets to travel home after six games to play Boulder on Saturday.

Hawai’i Extends Winning Streak to Five

HONOLULU – Jesse Wimberly hit his second home run of the season in the fifth inning to propel Hawai’i over Tacoma Saturday night. The game was a literal stalemate until Wimberly’s 381 foot smash to left field. It was the first run scored on Tacoma’s Jason Salers all season. For Hawai’i (5-0), the win clinched a victory in the three-game series with Tacoma, and it also perpetuated their winning streak to five games. For the Aroma (1-4), the game marked another disappointment from a team that was supposed to be one of the best in the Western Division. Tacoma showed definite weaknesses in base-running, and the team has yet to hit a home run.

Hawai’i hosts Tacoma on Tuesday to wrap up the series.

Hawai’i Cruises in Opener

BOULDER, CO – Despite the concerns of many that the Hawai’i Kats would be beaten as much by the cold weather as by Boulder in Thursday night’s opening game of Blue House Baseball, the Kats brought out the lumber and smashed homer after homer en route to a 9-1 victory. With the low temperature quickly approaching zero, Boulder (0-1) struggled to find an answer for the Kat’s hot hitting.

Hawai’i (1-0) debuted in its gray, yet colorful, uniforms and dazzled the Bunion crowd. On the very first at-bat Chad Fouts crushed a home run off of Jesse Loveday, and after that, the Kats cruised. Ronald Epstein hit two long balls on the night, and Aiden Peebles, the highly touted Kats hitter, hit a four-run shot in the ninth to seal the deal.

“It was a nice way to start a season,” Sergeant Peebles said following the win. “The guys really hit the ball well.” When asked about the cold conditions, Peebles simply stated, “We got used to it.”

The two teams meet again on Tuesday night in game two of a three game series.
