Is it true that Alshon Jeffery cheated at Monopoly this past week? If so, and the SEC allows him to play on Saturday, it just proves that America’s top conference is willing to let anything slide for gridiron excellence. It’s Championship Saturday, nonetheless. ESPN College GameDay is out west covering what could be Oregon’s first-ever trip to the national championship. Nickle is on-site in Corvallis representing the Blue House Lives (she’s actually not covering the Apple Cup). Early reports state that the crowd is raucous at Oregon State, as the Beavers and the Ducks clash in one of the most anticipated Civil War match-ups in history.

In the South, where football matters, Auburn and South Carolina fight for SEC supremacy. The world will be watching to see if Cam Newton has one more Heisman moment up his sleeve. Gamecock wide-receiver Alshon Jeffery, however, would love to steal the show, as would the Old Ball Coach, who has not been to the conference title game in a decade. Throw in the Big 12 Championship, the ACC Championship, and Connecticut vying for the Big East title, and it is a beautiful day for football.

It’s finally here, the Black Friday of football. No other weekend is so turkey-stuffed with intense rivalries. Like Best Buy at 4 a.m., rivalries breed nothing but lingering animosity and hatred. Specific crowd chants are created just for such games, and people cut themselves and surrounding fans if their team loses. College football rivalries are deadly games. I dare any terrorist to mess with a Michigan fan after the Wolverines lose to Ohio State again. If you attend any of game this weekend, be sure to wear Kevlar.

The big one is undoubtedly Auburn versus Alabama. The Tide faithful have created their own T-shirts for the game displaying the glorious text, “Scam Newton”. Yet, the ‘Bama defense better beware of Newton’s “scambling” ability, as he has torched the entire SEC over the course of a season. Other heated contests include Boise State and Nevada, Arkansas and LSU, and the “Big Game” between Ohio State and Michigan.

Finally, the Vols are on a bye, and we can concentrate on some actual college football. Does it seem to anyone that as the SEC teams continue to beat up on each other, SEC games the following week lose their luster. After South Carolina’s upset of number one Alabama last week, one has to wonder whether the SEC is relevant this season. What is meant by relevant, you may ask? Relevance means championships, and it appears that for the first time in half a decade a team from the SEC will not carry home a crystal football. That is, unless some other teams start losing. If the season ended today, the BCS National Championship would consist of the high-octane Oregon Ducks and the universally despised Ohio State Buckeyes. While the game could be interesting, no one outside of Columbus wants to see it. Alabama versus Oregon would have been much more anticipated. Even Boise State would be a better fit. So now the season comes to its driving force. We have the good guys on one side and a scarlet-clad villain on the other. The mission is simple and brief: someone has to beat Ohio State.

This is one of the more flattering portraits of Nick Saban in his happy high school days.

How is it that Arthur Fonzarelli went on to become the best college football coach in the country? He must have had an epiphany after he jumped that shark. Yet, why did he change his name to Nick Saban? That one, no one will ever figure out. His number one ranked Crimson Tide get to head back home after a procrastinating performance against Arkansas last week. This week, god himself comes to Tuscaloosa. Urban Meyer would love nothing more than to manifest another miracle and knock off the Tide. Trust this publication, a miracle is certainly what it will take for the Gators to win. They have been surprisingly error-prone all season. They can’t even seem to get a shotgun snap right. It’s as if John Brantley and his center have never met each other, and if they have, they are certainly not on pleasing terms. If the reader cannot tell already, it’s a no-brainer that Alabama will win on Saturday.

It is now official across the world: Tennessee has no defense, and Tennessee has no offense. Come to that, they don’t have a special teams either. Okay, so Daniel Lincoln can actually kick consistent field goals this year, but that’s it. After the first quarter, the Vols are simply an odious football team. They may take a small lead in the first, but John Chavis’s defense will shut them down for the other three. Chavis is out for revenge after being canned with Phil Fulmer and his staff in 2007. He will, perhaps, laugh gleefully at the outcome of this one.

And yet, one can’t help to reminisce about a hero who last led the Vols to a victory in Baton Rouge:

It’s finally here. No, not the long-awaited college football season, but the always-yearned-for BHL College Pick ‘Em. The Heisman Trophy is up for grabs today.

Following a wild weekend of championship games, this year’s Heisman Trophy presentation promises to just be unpredictable. It may be one of the most open years for a candidate. After last week, the race is still surprisingly anybody’s game, and this fact is especially true after Ndamukong Suh’s dominating performance against Texas in the Big 12 Championship Game. Perhaps the one hurt by the championship games was Toby Gerhart, as he did not play. It is generally agreed, by most, however, that what was supposed to be the year of the quarterback has become anything but. Tim Tebow and Colt McCoy both played lackluster games last week. The speculation for the award will defiinitely go down to the wire.

Championship Saturday is upon us. The pick ‘em remains remarkably close, as The Blue House Lives picked up a game on the Hampton Forecast thanks to BYU. Striker remains in the lead, but it has been reported that he is biting his nails profusely at the thought of the comprehensive bowl picks upcoming. 

The Vols finished out their season last week with a thrilling overtime victory over rival Kentucky. Tennessee has now clinched an appearance in the Chik-Fil-A Bowl against the Virginia Tech Hokies.

The Vols have beaten the Wildcats twenty-four straight years. It is the longest active streak of one team beating another that play every year. Just like every season, Kentucky believes that this one will be the year that they break the streak. The Vols are ecstatic to return Janzen Jackson to a battered defense. Will it be enough to beat the Cats again? If not, Kentucky will sure help Tennessee extend the streak.
