A Real Knoxvillian’s Guide to Bars
.
Basically, we drink, although a certain someone associated with this site is perturbed that none of these bars has IceHouse on draft. But here they are, in all their blue glory (or crap-colored glory).
.
The Royal Blue Awards for Excellence
.
Barley’s (Old City) - A pizzeria by day and full-fledged bar by night ($2.00 pint nights on Monday and Tuesday). They also have the best draft beer selection in Knoxville.
Pint House (Merchant’s Drive) - It has quickly become a favorite. They have a noodle bar that’s open until 4 a.m.
Sassy Ann’s (4th & Gill) - If you like a hip crowd, try to go when the frat fucks aren’t…
Flying Saucer - Although some of the beer i cannot stomach, the flights are nice and the attendants are better……
*Too bad the nearest one is in Nashville. You could always do like Scooter and I did. Drive to Texas and stay with Staff Sergeant Peebles. And drink until youre…..blue….. in the face….. (damn puns, I can’t get away from them.)

UTK Campus
.
Bar Knoxville – It’s more ghetto than we expected.
Buffalo Wild Wings – Simply put, it’s a sports bar.
Cool Beans – It’s fabulously fratastic.
Half Barrel – It gets crowded, but it can be fun.
Hanna’s Cafe – It’s just a place to sit and sip, unless it’s a busy night, then you might as well forget you know how to walk.
Long Branch – The local bands upstairs are almost as adventurous as the western theme downstairs.
Roaming Gnome – Once again, this bar is crowded with fraternal types.
RT’s – Don’t let the downstairs fool you (it’s actually New Amsterdam), but it’s still way too crowded to move around.
Sunspot - It’s gets crowded around 8 p.m. on Wednesdays for 1/2 price wine bottles. The food is pretty decent, however.
.
In the Old City
.
Hanna’s – It has a wide range of styles (80’s downstairs and hip-hop upstairs) and people.
Urban Bar – It is a good hangout if you don’t mind smelling like the Marlboro Man.
.
Downtown West
.
Hooter’s - One would obviously go here for more (or less depending on your ideals) than the atmosphere…but also the wings…right…the wings.
Rooster’s – A once, somewhat rough, and small bar, the past three years have proven to be a great success. Not only is it a mostly smoke free environment, but now it seem to be another pregame bar. It is mostly comprised of locals and people who want to be trendy or are a little prep-ish. The food is good and the people, while lumped together, are fairly friendly.
Soccer Taco – This bar may be a top-notch place. The soccer atmosphere is awesome, but try not to drink too many margaritas.
Scooter, thanks for doing this one for me - Caudle
Ray’s ESG (formerly Kingston Alley) – It’s rather hip, and the patio tends to hop, and the crowd differs depending on the night.
.
West ( and Turkey Creek Area)
.
Bailey’s – Not our type of bar, but if you like a crowded place with billiard and Pay-per-view events, enjoy. The bar from what we understand is constantly packed.
Cotton Eyed Joe’s – This place is great if your like young girls and line dancing.
Irish times - A supposedly authentic Irish atmosphere and menu. While can have not been more than a handful of times combined, when we did, we enjoyed it.
Wild Wing Cafe – It really seems to be the place where everyone pre-games.
.
The Kaka Brown Certification for Being a Crap Bar
.
Electric Cowboy – They keep upgrading and expanding, but still the trash rolls in. No matter how many friends want to go, just don’t.
Breaker’s Sports Bar and Grill – The only good thing about this place is that there’s a liquor store in the same shopping center (thank you Rosy’s, you are awesome).
