Charleston Gets First Win Over Monarchs
MANCHESTER, NH – The Charleston Windjammers picked up their first victory of the season on Saturday with a 9-4 thumping of Manchester. Grant Hughett hit two home runs to lead the Charleston (1-6) attack. It was the first instance all year of the Windjammer’s defense supporting the productive offense as Manchester (4-3) was held to four runs on seven hits. “It’s about time,” Josh Hughett said of the win. “For a minute there, I thought the baseball gods were infinitely against us.”
For Manchester, the loss marks their second in a row, and guarantees them a second-place tie in the Eastern Division. The lead now goes to the winner of the Balitmore versus Montreal game later today. Charleston and Manchester meet again on Tuesday for game two of their three-game series.
